I saw all the bad reviews on here and was pleasantly surprised to find that the place was better than expected! The food came out quickly and we could tell all the ingredients used were VERY fresh. The entire place was very affordable with California Rolls at about $3.75ish.
The only reason I rated it only 4 stars was because the flavor of the food was quite frankly a little bland. Could use more flavor and seasoning. -

Go there for lunch often. The food is good and the prices are reasonable. Parking is pretty good and there is usually seating available. I'd recommend this place over other sushi places in Marpole.

I always order their combos. The prices are fair for the quantity you get. The quality may not be the best compared to other Japanese restaurants. Service can be improved.

This review does not include the service or atmosphere as the actual restaurant as I ordered through SkipTheDishes.
I always pass by this restaurant whenever I take the bus. And this place looks like the largest sushi restaurant in the Marpole area too so I was bound to try it eventually.
I've ordered from them quite a few times, and usually don't have too much disappointment with them. I've ordered the chirashi don before which wasn't too bad for the pricing. However one time I did receive warm fish which wasn't the most appetizing (the rice wasn't warm either so something didn't quite add up here.) I've also ordered their spicy combo, which I wish they would actually just incorporate the spicy sauce on top of the sushi, rather than give to very small containers of spicy sauce that isn't enough for the combo itself which contains 3 rolls in total.
This place isn't too bad, but nothing special enough to keep me coming back. -

My husband and I have been here many times, and after a day of me being in the emergency unit at VGH, it will for sure be our last. Food poisoning is a dead giveaway that the food at Ikura is not only sub par quality, it is unsafe. The ironic thing is my husband has been telling me this for weeks now, and mentioned what his opinion was on the quality of ingredients just before we set inside. Too bad I didn't take heed to his word.
For the record, I had toro tataki as the only item on the menu that I've never had there before. Tataki is supposed to be raw in the middle and seared on the outside, whereas sashimi and nigiri are often completely raw, depending on the type. The reason we can eat raw fish is due to it being flash-frozen and afterwards stored in refrigerated, covered facilities. Obviously one or both of these safety methods are not being taken seriously by the staff at Ikura. If it was a child or a person with a compromised immune system, they'd likely be dead by now. Let this be a cautionary tale. I much rather pay top dollar knowing that my food is being handled and prepped to a decent standard, instead of retching my innards out again, from both ends
